[22/05/2010] Barcode reader - general explanation

A barcode reader is a device, which reads one-dimensional or two-dimensional data barcodes and translates them into plain text; the barcode reader is also often referred to as barcode scanner and can vary in size, type of technology that it uses, and the way it connects to a decoder. All readers have a light sensor, which detects the reflected light and sends analog signal to a converter, which in turn transforms that signal to digital. The digital signal is then send to a decoder and the decoder changes it to plain text format.
