A cordless bar code scanner allows barcode labels to be read from a distance, and provides great number of benefits to employees of large retailers and for the small shop owners alike. The main advantage of this scanner is its mobility and while the cheapest models allow data to be read from and sent to a few meters distance, the ones that are used in warehouses and airports can transmit within a few hundred feet range.
The barcodes are used to make running any retail business easier and more efficient – they have been in use for quite some time and when connected to computer systems, are capable of not only reading the price and other information about a product from its label, but keep inventory as well. As soon as an item is scanned and sold, the system automatically updates the stock, and when the inventory gets low, it could notify management. This saves tremendous amount of time and reduces cost. Moreover, while the traditional scanners are typically positioned at the checkpoints, the handheld wireless ones can be used by an employee to read labels of all products in the store and transmit the data to the base via Bluetooth or other wireless technology, which base is connected to computer or other device. Since the wireless handheld scanners are powered by a battery, the base also serves as a battery charger.
These clever devices are also perfectly suitable for stock taking since they can scan an item, which is even in the middle of a huge pile of other products. In order to read the bar code label using a traditional fixed scanner, the item will have to be removed from the pile, brought to the fixed scanner, and only then, its information could be read. Another great advantage is that the handheld wireless scanners can be carried by employees on their tool belts and used to identify prices anywhere in a large store, so the customers will not have to carry a product to the cashiers in order to find out their prices.
